The Sky Stadium Celebrity Burger is back!

BLACKCAPS legend Grant Elliott has teamed up with Delaware North’s Executive Chef Kupsami Gounder to create a limited-edition burger for cricket fans to enjoy at the BLACKCAPS v Australia T20 at Sky Stadium on Wednesday 21 February.

Drawing on his South African roots, ‘The Double Jav Burger’ features two 100g Boerewors patties made from a mix of Angus beef, lamb, and pork mince with a secret blend of herbs and spices, smoked cheese, bacon, pickle, tomato relish and mayonnaise, brought together on a chilli cornbread bun. “No burger is complete without mayonnaise,” says Grant.

Grant admits he doesn’t cook much but loves making burgers. “I’m definitely a meat and three vege kind of guy, but I do enjoy cooking burgers at home.”

“We’re so excited to bring back the celebrity burger for the BLACKCAPS v Australia T20, having done this successfully in 2018 and 2019 with a couple of local All Blacks greats,” says Sky Stadium Marketing Manager Alex Bargh. “It’s always great to work with local sporting heroes to give fans something different on game day.”

In addition to providing a great burger for fans to enjoy, 10% of proceeds from the sale of The Double Jav Burger will go to the Life Flight Trust with donations made being matched by the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust.

This run of burgers – limited to 600 on the day - will be available to purchase from the burger cart opposite Aisle 13 on the retail concourse, and in the Sky Stadium Members Club.

Fans are encouraged to get to the Stadium early on match day if they want to grab one of these, as they will sell out. There will also be an opportunity to see Grant on the grill at Aisle 13 between 5.30-6.30pm.

Entry tickets are available to purchase through Ticketek.
