Westpac Stadium Members and Box Holders got a glimpse into the challenges faced by some of the country’s top coaches last night at the Annual Function.
The evening featured an entertaining and insightful panel discussion with BLACKCAPS coach Mike Hesson, Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd and Phoenix FC coach Ernie Merrick on the topic of “Who’d be a Coach?!” compered by sports journalist Jason Pine.
Hesson shared some fascinating tales of his highlights and challenges in the lead up to and during the ICC Cricket World Cup including a glimpse into the celebrations that took place behind the scenes after the BLACKCAPS semifinal win.
Boyd discussed in depth some of the tactics he used to lead the Hurricanes to their most successful season ever including motivating the team to fill Westpac Stadium – a goal they achieved not once but twice in the season.
Merrick had the crowd in fits of laughter with anecdotes from his long, international coaching career including some candid tales of some of his more challenging players and a quip about how at age 63, he is still waiting “to reach his peak”.
The Annual Function is a way for the Stadium to thank Stadium Members and Box Holders for their support and commitment.
