Keith Urban Thanks Wellington Emergency Services

KEITH URBAN THANKS WELLINGTON EMERGENCY SERVICES WITH INVITE TO WESTPAC STADIUM PERFORMANCE ON DECEMBER 3

When Keith Urban’s ‘ripCORD WORLD TOUR NEW ZEALAND 2016’ arrives at Westpac Stadium this Saturday (December 3), dozens of local Civil Defence, Emergency Services and Defence Force personnel will be enjoying the show, thanks to a generous ticket donation by Urban himself.  The  Grammy and ARIA Award winner, heard about the large Kaikoura earthquake on November 14, while finishing off the North American leg of his “ripCORD WORLD TOUR 2016.”

“We cannot forget the incredible work of our first responders at the local Civil Defence, Emergency Services and Defence Force,” said Urban.  “These courageous men and women answer the call without hesitation and represent the best of the human spirit.  I’m incredibly appreciative of not only what they did to protect everyone effected by the Kaikoura quake, but of what they do each and everyday - and so to have them come see us play and show them our appreciation is an honour."

Civil Defence, Emergency Services and Defence Personnel have worked tirelessly since the earthquake to assist people in affected areas in the top of the South Island and the Wellington region. This has included keeping the public regularly informed with safety messages and road and building closures, maintaining cordons in the CBD and delivering supplies to areas cut off by slips on the roads.

Shane Harmon, Westpac Stadium CEO, says the venue was happy to help Urban’s idea become a reality. “Living in Wellington these past couple of weeks has been a trying time for residents, and an extremely busy time for Civil Defence, Emergency Services and the Defence Force. They’ve all done a tremendous job and to be recognised with a gesture like this is a really nice touch. We are sure everyone that attends Keith Urban’s show on Saturday is going to have a great night out.”

Westpac Stadium is working with ripCORD tour promoters TEG-Live to distribute tickets to agencies that have been heavily involved in earthquake recovery work.

Westpac Stadium was cleared of major structural damage after the earthquake but had superficial damage throughout the venue, which has been repaired in preparation for the concert.

Wellington is the only New Zealand stop on the ripCORD World Tour and the show will also feature seven-time Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum superstar Carrie Underwood and New Zealand country/pop duo Mae Valley.
