Wellington will host “Seven Days of Sevens” in the build up to next year’s annual Sevens tournament. Starting on 23 January, the festival will feature Olympic-themed rugby, food and music events around the Waterfront and Civic Square.
The festival will create a carnival-type atmosphere in the lead up to the tournament, bringing the city alive for locals and visiting fans and engaging with the Wellington hospitality industry.
General Manger Wellington Sevens Steve Dunbar said it’s great to see the city getting behind the tournament and putting on special events to celebrate the colour and fun that Wellington Sevens brings.
“Wellington will be the place to be in the last week of January. Seven days of Sevens will showcase all the vibrancy and excitement of the city and of Wellington Sevens. There will be a real buzz in the city.”
The festival coincides with a busy week across the region including the last week of school holidays, Wellington Anniversary Day and international cricket.
The Wellington Sevens will have a new-look in 2016 as the tournament aims to broaden its appeal to families and rugby-lovers.
