Westpac Stadium celebrates its 10 millionth fan

Westpac Stadium welcomed its 10 millionth fan on Friday evening at the Hurricanes v Highlanders Super Rugby match.

The lucky fan was Michelle who was surprised with the good news as she came through the turnstiles on entry to the game. Michelle travelled in from Waikanae and attended the game with husband Sam, her father-in-law Kevin and children Mila (9) and Luka (8).

Michelle has been a regular Westpac Stadium attendee over the years, enjoying a range of various events and named the Rolling Stones concert in 2006 as her favourite event. Luka is currently obsessed with the Hurricanes and proudly showed off his Hurricanes jersey signed by his hero Ngani Laumape.

To celebrate the milestone, Michelle received a prize package, including:

  • An upgrade to the Westpac Stadium Members Club for the family for the evening
  • A $200 Stadium food and beverage voucher
  • Two tickets to the All Blacks v South Africa test match
  • A $200 donation to the Wellington charity of her choice

The fan milestone comes after 19 years and 3 months in operation since the Stadium first opened on 3 January 2000.  It also comes just six days after Westpac Stadium sent its highest ever crowd record with 46,474 fans in attendance for the Eminem concert on 2 March.

Said Westpac Stadium CEO Shane Harmon “This is a significant milestone for the Stadium and a great way to pay tribute to all of the fans who have enjoyed events here over the past 19 years."

"We are grateful for the continued support of the fans, from all our sports and events, and we look forward to creating more experiences and memories for the next 10 million.”

Westpac Stadium has averaged an annual attendance of 528,000. The 10 million fan milestone comes 9 months ahead of the Stadium’s 20th birthday which it will celebrate in January next year.
