Westpac Stadium to offer ''BBQ versus Braai'' food options for test match

An All Blacks versus Springboks Test match is always a great competition on the field, but fans can now contest who has the best food in the “BBQ versus Braai” promotion at Westpac Stadium.

Two limited edition hot dogs have been created by Stadium chefs from Delaware North and will be available exclusively at the Test match on 15 September from a marquee on the inner plaza.

  • The Kiwi Dog: Homegrown Wellington Lamb & Rosemary sausage with grilled caramelised onions, in a fresh tiger roll served with Wattie’s tomato sauce or Horopito BBQ sauce.
  • The Braai Dog: Traditional South African boerewors sausage with smoky BBQ onions, in a fresh tiger roll served with Mrs Balls Chutney or gerook soetrissies (smoked capsicum) sauce.

Fans are encouraged to vote for their favourite using the hashtag #bbqvbraai.

Two sporting legends, former All Black captain Rodney So’oialo, former Silver Fern Irene Van Dyk, were on hand today at Westpac Stadium to launch the new food items.

Said Van Dyk “I am a huge fan of the South African braai-style cooking. The flavours of the boerewors sausage are so intense and smoky. I think fans are going to love this”.

However, So’oialo was confident the Kiwi option is bound to win the support of fans “You can’t beat a good Kiwi BBQ. These flavours are so tasty and synonymous with New Zealand”.

Both athletes are also looking forward to the sporting contest and encouraged fans to get to the game. When New Zealand and South Africa met in 2017, the All Blacks took the win by just one point.

“There is something special when these two teams meet in Wellington. It’s one of the biggest rivalries in rugby and you know that both teams are going to give it their all” said Van Dyk.

A limited number of tickets are still available for the Test match at www.allblacks.com/tickets.
